A friendship trait I’d like to highlight for the purpose of this post is this: EMPATHY.
It’s needed in a friendship at some point or another and maybe often.
For those that don’t know the meaning, in my own words, it means to be able to put yourself in your friends shoes. Being able to understand and relate.
Without this friendships will most likely go awry because friends need to rely on each other for the kind of support given when the friends can relate to each other emotionally.
Without this a friend may seem very sanctimonious, cold and mean, and this may result in a damaged friendship.
If you are having a hard time bringing this to your friendship try to remember that it isn’t about you and think about how you would feel in that situation and the understanding that you would expect for yourself.
If you have a friend who you feel doesn’t possess this trait perhaps it’s time to bring it up and if you continue to feel misunderstood or judged by your friend perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate your friendship.
Friendships are a joyful gift and meant to make life better. Be that friend. 🙂
