Chest of Drawers Furniture Painting (Fiasco?)

Remember how I said I had a “fail” that was keeping me from showing you my new home office nook?

Well, here it is.

My furniture painting fiasco.

As you can see, the before chest of drawers are ugly as hell. That was the result of a D.I.Y. re-do I did a couple of years ago and was quite proud of at the time.

The white is where I primed.

The black is the first color I chose.

What was I thinking…

Then I found a really pretty yellow which I turned into chalk paint by using the D.I.Y. chalk paint recipe:

Make Your Own Chalk Paint:

Couple tablespoons of unmixed grout mixed with couple tablespoons of water.
Mix then add paint and mix some more.

Super nice…until…

I used a black furniture polish/wax for the distressed look.

Whoops.

Except now I don’t want to paint the dam thing again so I’m going to live with it as a reminder of what not to do next time I do my own distressing furniture.

It’s got personality though, in my opinion, so for now it’s alright.

Plus, I’d like to do my makeshift office reveal!

Have you tried  chalk painting yet?

It’s quite nice really, I like the thickness of the paint.

If you’ve got any distressing tutorials feel free to tag me or leave it in the comments, I will be looking.

P.S. Please excuse the kitty litter box in my last pic. Apparently my photography skills need some tweaking.

Lesson #1: Remove the cat shit
